Hendrick Doncker was the first cartographer to provide a map of the eastern seaboard of North America, which he published in 1660, as a chart Nieu Nederland, Virginia en Nieu Engelante. However the first chart that relates directly to Canada, was Van loon's 1661 map which the this 1669/70 Doncker map was based on. This is the first state of the chart without the added soundings.(Kershaw)
